F.A.Q's
Q. Do I have to raise money to take part?
A. No. However we would like you to consider doing so. If every rider could raise only £10 each it would
raise a massive amount for Cancer Research UK and Little Heroes. Entry fees have been kept low to encourage riders to
support us and we are also asking our sponsors to donate prizes to those who really enter into the
spirit of the event.
Q. Is it a race?
A. No. The event is a Cyclo-Sportive and not a race. There are no prizes, other than those offered to
riders raising sponsorship monies. See below for more details.
Q. Is it a mass start event?
A. Again No. Riders have the flexibility to start in their own time during the distance start time window.
See below for more details.
Q. What time do I start?
A. Long Route - You can start anytime between 06:30 a.m. and 09:30 a.m.
Medium & Short Routes - You can start anytime between 06:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Q. How hard is it?
A. This is one of the toughest sportives on the circuit and we would ask that you do not underestimate it.
The long route is for experienced riders only. The medium route is still a very big challenge.
Because of the generous time allowed to complete it, the short route will make a challenging ride for
newcomers and returning cyclists.
Please ensure you enter the correct distance for your experience, as the routes are very hilly and demanding
and this is not the event to be doing this distance for the first time. Even good club riders will struggle to
average over 13 mph over the longer routes. See the time standards (TBC) for an idea of how hard it will be.
Q. Can I change routes?
A. Yes, no problem - up to a week before the event. You can update your record via the SPORT-ident login or email us
with your details and we will update your entry.
Q. When do I sign on and get my timing chip?
A. Signing on will be from 06:30 a.m. on the event Sunday where you will collect both your rider number and timing chip.
There is no pre-signing on and you will receive no post from us.
Q. How does the timing system work?
A. Each
rider, after signing-on will be issued with a SPORT ident UK SI card
that should fastened securely around the wrist.
At the commencement of
the ride the card is “dibbed” into the electronic box at the control
point and this emits an audible beep.
Please repeat the process if the beep
isn’t heard. This establishes your start time in the system control.
Further timing points
will be located at each of the three designated feed stations
and the control point at the top of Langbar. It is essential that you
repeat the process here, as failure to do this will
establish a “short cut” error in your timing record. The final timing
point will be
at the finish, after which you should
proceed immediately to the Event Control Center where the wrist band
will be removed and
your timing certificate can be collected.
Q. Is the route sign posted?
A. Yes. All three routes will be clearly signed with both our laminated event signs and the large Cancer Research UK direction arrows.
We will also be signing some of the descents where we will remind riders to take care. You should also collect a route card from HQ.
Q. What about accidents?
A. There will be trained medics at each of the three feed stations, as well as roving medics out on the course. However if you are unable
to make it to a station or see someone else who can't, then please contact the emergency services immediately, either by mobile or at
one of the designated telephone points on your route card. Please bear in mind you will be in rural areas where no mobile signal may
be available and it is your own responsibility to ride safely and responsibly.
Q. I can no longer take part, do I get a refund?
A. Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds, but we can transfer your entry to another competitor if you send us both riders details.
If however this is not possible, then what remains of your entry fee after costs are taken out will be donated to the charities.
